Conyngham Hall is to the West of the pretty town of Knaresborough. It’s close enough to Harrogate that a zoomed-out map makes it look part of the same place, but it is definitely its own place. It has a cute train station, very close to the Hall, and there’s a car park right next to the start - toilets at the town end of the car park, parkrun start in front of the farmhouse ruins at the other end.
I chose to park in York Place, the long-stay car park at the other end of town, because £3 there pays for all day, but only four hours in the Hall car park. Either works perfectly well, but the town was worth a wander.
The briefing happened in front of the ruins, then we all walked - you can go either side of the area shown above - to the start just the other side up a small rise.
Conyngham Hall is now a business centre, which I suppose leaves it free at the weekend for activities like parkrun to pass it. The sign below promises more than I found, but I may not have looked hard enough. The route makes you do just that a couple of times, and the place is in sight across a field on the right as you enjoy a flat section, coming back down to complete a lap.
The views vary. The route takes you on this road a couple of times, but also along paths and onto grass to run round a field.
More variety below, running over a wooden bridge and a hard-packed path going uphill.
This is a lovely, scenic run, undulating without really quite being ‘hilly’, though that’s a subjective term. The views set me up for a walk round town that was definitely hilly in places, but that led to some great views over Knaresborough. There’s a boat hire place just over the road from the hall if you’re in the mood, and the centre is worth a look too.
